Assessing the State of the Region’s Health

The Regional Plan Association is a nongovernmental urban research and advocacy organization that works to improve the prosperity, infrastructure, sustainability and quality of life of the New York-New Jersey-Connecticut metropolitan region.  Some of the region’s most significant public works, economic development and open space projects have their roots in RPA ideas and initiatives.  Beginning in the 1920’s, a cornerstone of RPA’s work is the development of a long-range strategic plan and identification of policies to guide the region’s growth.  As part of the development of RPA’s fourth regional plan, EAC provided contributions and advice for the incorporation of health in all policies considerations as part of the final recommendations.  The effort included advising on an assessment of health within the region as well as identification of urban infrastructure policies that may contribute to improvement of health outcomes.
