This research assesses the status of municipal LED street light conversions and the barriers faced by New Jersey municipalities to foster market transformation of this sector.
The project objective is to review the current technological and economic situation as well as experiences by other jurisdictions to identify the barriers and suitable technical and financial solutions for municipalities in New Jersey.
Issues such as ownership, costs, and tariffs, as well as timing, technologies, financing, incentives, and best practices by other municipalities are evaluated. This report focuses on available options for municipalities to convert their current stock of gas discharge-based streetlight fixtures to more energy-efficient and reliable LED-based fixtures. A successful transition will help municipalities to reduce costs, minimize emission impacts from this sector, while improving the quality of their street and outdoor lighting service
