The Center for Urban Policy Research (CUPR) is conducting a life cycle assessment (LCA) that evaluates the environmental and human health impacts associated with data center development and operation, based on the proposed data center campus in Vineland, New Jersey. The research impacts across the life cycle, from site preparation and construction through operation and end-of-life, using SimaPro and the ReCiPe 2016 methodology, as a means to help inform state and local decision-making related to data center development, permitting, and reporting. The analysis also examines where those impacts occur (within the local community, upstream, or off-site), as well as how different power-supply scenarios affect the magnitude and location of impacts.
