Jeanne Herb

Senior Policy Fellow

Jeanne Herb is a Senior Policy Fellow at the Bloustein School, having retired in July 2024 from her role as Bloustein’s Executive Director of the Environmental Analysis and Communications Group and Co-Director of the New Jersey Climate Change Resource Center at Rutgers University. The Resource Center, established by statute, supported equitable and science-informed climate solutions for communities, government, and the private sector.

Throughout her career, Jeanne led numerous applied research and collaborative initiatives focused on the intersection of social and environmental determinants of health, health equity, environmental sustainability, public policy, and inclusive decision-making. She co-facilitated the New Jersey Climate Change Alliance for 12 years, promoting science-based climate action, and served on the leadership team for Rutgers’ Coastal Climate Risk and Resilience Program. She also co-managed the New Jersey Inclusive Healthy Communities grant program, aimed at advancing health equity for people with disabilities.

Jeanne taught graduate courses on science communication and environmental sustainability in city and regional planning. Prior to joining Rutgers in 2010, she spent more than two decades at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, culminating in her role as Assistant Commissioner of Policy, Planning and Science. In this position, she oversaw programs related to environmental health, sustainable planning, environmental justice, climate change, and coastal management.

Jeanne currently serves on the New Jersey Department of Health’s Healthy New Jersey 2030 Advisory Committee.  She is an alumnus of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Culture of Health Leaders Program and the Rutgers Leadership Academy. Jeanne holds a 1981 bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and a Master’s degree in Science, Health and Environmental Journalism from New York University.
