Rebecca Martin, a candidate in the Rutgers School of Social Work PhD program and affiliate of the Rutgers Hub for Aging Collaboration, is a Senior Research Specialist with the Rutgers Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, who works as the Project Manager for the New Jersey Inclusive Healthy Communities grant program, funded by the NJ Division of Disability Services. Rebecca is a Licensed Social Worker in the State of New Jersey and previously worked with college students with disabilities. In addition to a Master of Social Work from Rutgers with a certificate in Aging and Health, they hold a Master of Design Practices from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where their processes focused on inclusive design practices for work with historically marginalized communities. Rebecca also received a Bachelor of Arts in Media Arts and Design, Corporate Media Mass Communications, from James Madison University. Prior to entering the social work field, she worked in service design and, earlier, as a visual merchandising manager for a national retail chain. Rebecca’s research interests include: othering, belonging, and bridging, particularly when centering disability as an intersectional identity; cross-discipline problem solving; the evolution of research methodologies to reflect changing conceptualizations of identities; and coalition-building between underrepresented groups. Rebecca’s professional mission is to facilitate and experience moments of insight through the communal sharing of wisdom.
